Forte Academy in The Florentine

This July we offered a new course, Women Latinists, in Florence and students joined us from Boston, L.A., Salisbury, Vienna, Maine, Mississippi and St Albans.

It was a pleasure to be interviewed by Jane Farrell at The Florentine to talk about this course and the philosophy behind it for their October feature celebrating Women Advancing the Arts in Tuscany – which you can now read online here!

About the course

Some highlights this year included reciting a Latin letter by Alessandra Scala’s in her ex-palazzo home, paying our respects at the tomb of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and meeting Julia Bolton Holloway, reading poetry about the Arno on the Arno, writing Latin postcards with a Duomo view, acting out the kitchen scene from Hrosvitha of Gandersheim’s Dulcitius in our very own kitchen and singing the Latin hymns of Lorenza Strozzi in the courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi!

Lead tutors: Skye Shirley and Florence Forte

Next dates: Spring/Summer 2023
