"Essere superstiziosi è da ignoranti, ma non esserlo porta male." - Eduardo De Filippo ("Being superstitious is a sign of ignorance, but not being superstitious brings bad luck")
On Friday 5 December 2025, we will be running a unique Ancient Amulets Masterclass in collaboration with a 150-year old jewellery shop in Florence, Gioielleria Cesare Mannelli (founded 1875).
Join us for this 1-hour seminar exploring the fascinating world of amulets and protective jewellery - from ancient civilisations through to Renaissance Florence and modern Italy - from both a historical and hands-on perspective.
Led by the director of Forte Academy, Florence Forte, and Florentine jeweller, Jacopo Guglielmi, you'll uncover the stories, shapes and materials behind a curated selection of amulets - discovering how jewellery and symbols have long been used as a form of protection - and how their meanings have evolved over the centuries.
After the session, enjoy a glass of wine and conversation while handing real objects in the historic Gioielleria Cesare Mannelli, which has just celebrated its 150 year anniversary. No prior knowledge required.
